CAIRO – 9 July 2023: The Egyptian Armed Forces referred a medical officer to an urgent trial for charges with manslaughter in Egypt’s upscale town of Madinaty.

The Military Prosecutor has concluded the ongoing investigations with the medical officer, who was charged with murder and attempted murder, said the Armed Forces Spokesperson Gharib Abdel-Hafez in a statement on Sunday.

“The case was referred to an "urgent" criminal trial before the Military Criminal Court,” Abdel-Hafez added.

News has been circulating on social media on the incident that occurred on July 1 at one of the residential compounds in New Cairo when a medical officer deliberately ran over a family. As a consequence, the mother died, while the father and three children have been receiving treatment at hospital.

The cause is that one of the three children scratched the suspect's car, while riding a scooter. Nevertheless, he did not accept the family's apology, and committed the crime that was recorded by surveillance cameras, prompting his arrest by military police.
