CAIRO – 6 July 2023: The Egyptian Railway Authority (ERA) announced that the fifth Talgo train no. 2027 had entered service Thursday, starting its first trip at 19:00 from Cairo to Alexandria and arriving at 21:30.

On the other hand, another Talgo train carrying the number 2026 departs from Alexandria at 18:50 and arrives at Cairo in also two hours and a half.

The Egyptian Railway Authority (ERA) announced in March that the fourth Talgo train had begun operation between Cairo and Aswan like the third one, making stops in Giza, Asyut, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, Edfu, and Kom Ombo.

Egypt purchased from Talgo six trains in a deal worth €157 million. Each consists of five air-conditioned first-class railcars, eight air-conditioned second-class railcars, caboose, engine, and power car.

The trains are made of aluminum, which makes them lighter, and as a result, reduces the consumption of fuel. The vehicles also include places suitable for the disabled, and an entertainment system so as each seat at the first-class is equipped with a screen, while there are central screens in the second-class.

ERA began in December the pilot operation of the first two Talgo trains, whose speed is 160 kilometers per hour, between Cairo and Alexandria.
