CAIRO – 6 July 2023: President of the Egyptian Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Admiral Osama Rabie, met with Greek Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Miltiadis Varvitsiotis on Thursday, according to a statement by the SCA.

"Both sides discussed ways of strengthening cooperation and joint coordination," the statement said.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 1st Arab-Hellenic Maritime Conference taking place on July 5-6, 2023 in Athens, and organized by the Arab-Hellenic Chamber.

Rabie gave a brief about recent development projects in the Suez Canal, and the promising opportunities offered, affirming “Authority's keenness to open broader horizons for cooperation and invest in the extended partnership relations with Greece in creating more opportunities for success and integration.”

He clarified that this cooperation can be achieved through the exchange of experiences, technology transfer, and the study of partnerships with the Authority's companies and arsenals, the statement continued.

Rabie added that the newly-signed agreement of establishing “Antipollution Egypt,” tasked with collecting and managing the solid and liquid waste of the ships transiting the navigational course between the SCA and V Group of Companies, "is an embodiment of a promising model for Egyptian-Hellenic cooperation in the maritime field and a strong addition to the system.”

For his part, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis said that the Suez Canal will remain one of the strategic axes of the global trade movement, praising the canal's integrated vision in developing its capabilities to play its vital role optimally.

The Greek Minister expressed his aspiration to enhance the scope of cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority.
