CAIRO – 5 July 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry received Wednesday a phone call from German counterpart Annalena Baerbock to consult and coordinate over issues of joint concern, mainly the Sudanese crisis.
Minister Shokry gave an overview of the efforts deployed by Egypt to resolve the crisis, and its persistent pursuit of an immediate and permanent ceasefire since the outbreak of the conflict.
In that framework, the minister stressed the importance of dialogue to settle disputes in Sudan, and stipulated Egypt's prioritization of the Sudanese people's security and safety. That is why tens of thousands of Sudanese citizens had been welcomed in Egypt, and granted humanitarian and medial aid at border crossings.
The call similarly tackled the deteriorating conditions on Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories, particularly after the Israeli aggression against the town and refugee camp of Jenin.
With that regard, the Egyptian minister expressed Egypt's deep concern about the Israeli violations of Palestinian rights, asserting that the international community, especially influential states, must play an active role in ending the violence circle.
The two ministers agreed on maintaining consultations on regional developments, and working together towards the settlement of the Sudanese crisis, and pacification on Palestinian territories.
They also commended the momentum experienced by the bilateral economic cooperation, affirming the salience of bolstering such cooperation in fulfillment of the interests of the two countries.
