Egyptian Armed Forces affirms prosecution of officer who committed murder

CAIRO – 4 July 2023: The Egyptian Armed Forces issued Tuesday a press statement announcing that the suspect in a murder case in New Cairo and who is a medical officer had been charged with manslaughter.

The statement indicated that the Military Prosecution is investigating the case, which was given the number 170/2023, in preparation for referral to the Military Criminal Court, and that the suspect is being held in apprehension.

The Egyptian Armed Forces stressed its full respect to the rule of law, and extended its condolences to the family of the victim, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

News has been circulating on social media on the incident that occurred on July 1 at one of the residential compounds in New Cairo when a medical officer deliberately ran over a family. As a consequence, the mother died, while the father and three children have been receiving treatment at hospital.

The cause is that one of the three children scratched the suspect's car, while riding a scooter. Nevertheless, he did not accept the family's apology, and committed the crime that was recorded by surveillance cameras, prompting his arrest by military police.
