CAIRO – 1 July 2023: Egypt is building its first integrated fishing port on the Mediterranean at a cost of LE600 million. The selected location is Rosetta city in Beheira governorate.
The harbor will consist of a quay whose capacity is 60 fishing boats per hour, and another dedicated to maintenance. The latter will be equipped with a tugboat whose capacity is over 2,000 tons.
The port, expected to create 5,000 jobs, will comprise an engineering department, customs office, wholesale and retail markets, warehouses, bunkering station, break areas for workers, and various administrative services.
The port is set to include three factories for ice making, fishing net production, and fish processing and freezing. That is in addition to workshops for fishing boat maintenance, and storehouses for fishing equipment.
