CAIRO – 30 June 2023: On the 10th anniversary of June 30th Revolution, head of the Egyptian National Council for Women (NCW) headed by Maya Morsy reviewed the achievements fulfilled by the Egyptian state in women’s empowerment since the revolution in 2014.
Her speech was given at the Panel discussion on Women's Rights (the Annual full day discussion on Human rights of women), Morsy said: “In the face of historical challenges, today Marks the 10th Anniversary of 30th of June Revolution, when Egyptian Women have chosen progress over regression, inclusion over exclusion, and empowerment over discrimination.”
Morsy added that women parliamentarians increased to 28%, women Ministers reached 25%, besides 27% vice-ministers, 31 % female deputy governors, and 25 % female ambassadors.
“Today, Egyptian women are rising as leaders, advisor to the president, Governors, judges, prosecutors, policy- makers and change-makers, their voices resonating across all corridors of power with no discrimination. Their resilience and determination inspire generations to come,” she said.
The head of the National Council for Women also warned that cyber and technology-facilitated violence is an urgent global challenge that serves as both a barrier and a troubling backlash against women's leadership and participation in decision-making systems.
Invasion of privacy, defamation, hate speech, mal-information, often can spill-over into real-life and physical danger, Morsy continued.
“We commend the leadership of Ms. Nicole Ameelen in developing the future general recommendation for CEDAW on the Equal and inclusive representation of women in decision making positions,” Morsy added.
“It is crucial to foster a digital landscape that promotes respectful dialogue, and upholds the principles of equality and human rights. By embracing inclusive technology and building supportive communities, we can create an environment where women's leadership flourishes and their voices are amplified,” Morsy added.
