CAIRO – 29 June 2023: Egypt's Mufti Shawqi Allam strongly condemned the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran (Muslim Holy Book) by the hands of some extremists in Sweden on the first day of Eid al Adha holiday.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Mufti said such irresponsible acts evoke feelings of hatred and reflect the hateful manifestations of Islamophobia.
He urged the international community to combat such polemics and insults and confront any act that could fuel hatred and spread sedition.
Allam renewed his call for issuing an international law that criminalizes the insult of prophets, religions, sanctities, and religious symbols in order to preserve peace worldwide
