CAIRO – 26 June 2023: Egyptian athletes won a total of 49 medals at the Special Olympics World Games 2023 held in Berlin on June 17-25. The breakdown is 17 gold medals, 13 silver medals, and 19 bronze medals.
Three gold medals were collected by each of the bowling, gymnastics, and weight lifting national teams. The gymnastics team also won two silver medals and eight bronze ones, while that of weight lifting won three silver medals and a bronze one.
Each of the tennis, badminton and athletics teams won two gold medals. The first and the third collected two bronze medals each, while the second got one. Further, the first got a silver medal.
The swimming and cycling teams collected a gold medal and a bronze one each. Yet, the former got a silver medal, while the latter won two. Moreover, each of the horse-riding and table tennis teams won a silver medal, in addition to two bronze medals collected by the Judo team.
The champions include residents of orphanages, and who are Mahasen Mohamed, who won two gold medals and a silver one in weight lifting, and Aya Farag Hussein, who won a bronze medal in athletics.
The number of Egyptian athletes who took part in the championship are 69 competing among 7,000 athletes representing 190 countries. The number of games at the championship are 15, and they are football, basketball, tennis, table tennis, badminton, athletics, Judo, horse riding, weight lifting, bowling, bocce, cycling, swimming, gymnastics, and hockey.
