CAIRO – 26 June 2023: Egypt's Attorney General Hamada Al Sawy ordered on Monday starting an investigation on the collapsing of a 13-floor building in Alexandria.
The Public Prosecution instructed the civil protection forces and neighborhood officials to take all necessary measures to secure the area and neighboring buildings.
The Public Prosecution also formed a committee from the Housing Directorate in the governorate to conduct the necessary inspection of the property and examine its file. The building was seized by the Prosecution in order to clarify the cause of the collapsing.
A 13-storey inhabited building has collapsed on Monday, located at Khalil Hamada Street, in Al Montaza neighborhood, in Alexandria governorate.
According to eyewitnesses, number of the building residents are still under the rubble, in addition to others who were in a supermarket below the collided building. Also, number of cars were destroyed.
The Civil Protection forces along with Fire Department of the Alexandria Security Directorate headed to the accident location to extract the victims from under the rubble.
The number of victims still not yet known. Ambulances, security forces and officials of the Al-Montazah district were the first to arrive to the location.
