CAIRO - 21 June 2023: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is traveling to Paris, the French capital, this morning, to participate in the International Summit for the “New Global Financing Pact.” The summit is set to take place over the 22nd and 23rd of June.
Egyptian Presidency spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy stated that El-Sisi’s attendance at this significant event comes in response to an invitation from French President Emmanuel Macron.
This participation is seen in light of the close and growing strategic relations between Egypt and France, and Egypt’s significant role in emerging economies generally.
This role contributes to bolstering international initiatives aimed at supporting developing and least developed nations by facilitating access to necessary liquidity to confront the economic repercussions of multiple successive global challenges, including climate change, the coronavirus pandemic, the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and ensuing energy, food, and supply chain crises.
The summit aims to boost international cooperation to craft appropriate mechanisms to provide necessary financing for achieving sustainable development in these nations.
The spokesperson further explained that the President plans to focus during the Paris Summit on various topics of interest to developing countries. This focus relates to the importance of boosting international efforts to facilitate their access to required financial flows, considering the challenges these countries face due to escalating global crises.
It also involves emphasizing the need for effective support in their quest to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, including the commitment of developed countries to their pledges within the framework of the Paris Climate Agreement.
The spotlight in this regard will be cast on Egypt’s presidency of the COP27 Global Climate Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, the major achievements made in this respect, and a review of Egypt’s national experience in dealing with climate change and expanding the use of renewable energy.
El-Sisi’s visit to France also includes meetings with several French and international leaders and officials to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation frameworks and consulting on regional and international issues of common interest.
