CAIRO – 20 June 2023: Terrorism costed Egypt about $207 billion between 2001 and 2016, in addition to its consequences and repercussions on tourism and the availability of foreign exchange, Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity Nevin Al-Kabbaj said on Tuesday.
She added during a conference titled “Civil Society: Towards an Effective Partnership with the state”, that the idea of researching the cost of terrorism upon the Egyptian state, was by President Sisi, explaining that he aimed to know the exact cost of terrorism incurred by the Egyptian society during the past years.
The minister indicated that the research
The minister indicated that large number of researchers and specialists participated in the research that covered almost all economic, social and political levels during the past three decades.
The research lasted for 18 months, according to Kabbaj.
She revealed that the research concluded that terrorism is not a ‘single phenomenon’, but has a multidimensional perspective and effects, pointing out that it is not a requirement that terrorism be linked to poverty or a low level of education.
