CAIRO – 17 June 2023: A supply ship belonging to the Egyptian Armed Forces, arrived at Port Sudan carrying “hundreds of tons” of relief aid to the Sudanese people upon the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

The supplies were provided by the ministries of defense and social solidarity, the Egyptian Red Crescent, and the Egyptian Zakat and Charity House, the Egyptian Armed Forces' spokesman said in a statement on Saturday.

The aid to Sudan included food as well as humanitarian and medical supplies, the statement said, noting that the aid will be sent to the afflicted and neediest areas in Sudan.

Sudanese officials, for their part, expressed gratitude for Egypt's efforts to support Sudan during its time of need, appreciating the Egyptian political leadership for its ongoing efforts to overcome all adversities faced by the Sudanese people.

After the cargo was delivered, the ship returned home, carrying Egyptian and Sudanese nationals, the statement noted.

Egypt has opened its doors for Sudanese refugees and nationals of other countries since the clashes broke out in April between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Earlier in June, President Sisi said Egypt has received about 200,000 Sudanese refugees over the past two months. This makes Egypt the largest host of Sudanese refugees, according to UN figures.

Egypt has also delivered medical and relief aid on the Egyptian-Sudanese borders to those in need, especially through the Egyptian Red Crescent.
