CAIRO – 8 June 2023: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Thursday with his Malawian counterpart, Lazarus Chakwera, on the sidelines of the COMESA summit in the Zambian capital, Lusaka
Spokesman for the Presidency, Ahmed Fahmy, said President El-Sisi emphasized that Egypt values the outstanding bilateral relations it shares with Malawi, lauding Malawi’s vigorous role in the Southern Africa region.
President El-Sisi confirmed Egypt’s commitment to fostering closer cooperation between the two countries, particularly in investment, trade and capacity-building for Malawian cadres.
President Chakwera valued the ongoing progress in Egyptian-Malawian bilateral relations, expressing his country’s profound appreciation for Egypt, its people and leadership and for its leading role in steering joint African action.
He highlighted the broad prospects available to further promote relations and to strengthen frameworks of bilateral cooperation in an array of development and technical areas.
The two Presidents discussed developments in a multitude of regional issues and African dossiers. There was an alignment in views with regard to continuing bilateral coordination on security and stability issues and achieving the development goals in the African continent.
The two Presidents also agreed on boosting cooperation in this regard through the joint membership of the two countries in the African Union and the COMESA community.
