CAIRO – 7 June 2023: People with respiratory problems are advised to stay indoors as dusty winds will blow across Egypt on Thursday, according to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) forecast.
The EMA, however, expects tomorrow’s dusty winds to be less severe from the sandstorm that blew across Egypt on 1 June, causing many trees, billboards and light poles to fall in streets and block traffic in some occasions.
Thursday will see a wave of unstable weather, including also a rise in temperatures nationwide and rainfall that may turn into thunderstorms in some parts, said the EMA.
This comes as the country is affected by a thermal low centered above the Egyptian Western Desert with wind that causes temperatures to rise.
The dusty winds will start in the Western Desert and will affect the areas across Egypt gradually as time goes on.
Weather is expected to be extremely hot in Greater Cairo Lower Egypt, South Sinai and southern Egypt during daytime, the EMA said, noting that the northern coast will also see hot weather.
Temperatures based on the EMA expectations on Thursday
- Cairo and Lower Egypt – Highs: 38 - Lows: 29
- Northern coasts – Highs: 34 – Lows: 23
- South Sinai – Highs: 41 – Lows: 30
- Northern Upper Egypt – Highs: 41 – Lows: 29
