CAIRO – 7 June 2023: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi arrived in Zambia on Wednesday to attend the 22nd Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Heads of State and Governments Summit.
The summit is scheduled to be held in the Zambian capital of Lusaka on Thursday 8 June with the participation of the COMESA 21 member states under the theme: “Economic Integration for a Thriving COMESA Anchored on Green Investments, Value Addition and Tourism”.
Zambia is President Sisi’s second stop in his African tour that included Angola and is set to also include Mozambique with the aim of enhancing efforts to achieve economic integration in Africa.
Sisi’s tour of the southern African region comes as part of Egypt's keenness on enhancing coordination and relations with its African partners in the various fields, the Egyptian Presidential Spokesman said.
During his visit to Angola today, Sisi and his Angolan counterpart, Joao Lourenco, attended the signing of a number of agreements and protocols between the two countries in many fields, including information and security cooperation exchange, water resources, clean energy and electricity.
Sisi and Lourenco also held a press conference to highlight several topics of cooperation and coordination as well as issues of mutual concern.
