CAIRO – 1 June 2023: The sixth edition of Cairo Water Week (CWW), scheduled to be held by the end of October, will continue the efforts to put water at the heart of climate action, Egyptian Minister of Irrigation Hani Sewilam said on Thursday.
The CWW will also serve as a preparatory event ahead of the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), set to be held from 30 November to 12 December in Dubai, Sewilam said during his participation in the Development Partners Meeting, held under the theme: “Action on Water Adaptation for Sustainability”.
Egypt is coordinating with the United Arab Emirates, the chair of the upcoming UN climate conference, to continue the endeavors of putting water at the heart of climate action, Sewilam added.
Egypt, the chair of COP27, launched last year the AWARe (Action on Water Adaptation or Resilience) initiative in partnership with World Meteorological Organization (WMO) during the activities of the climate conference.
The initiative seeks to enhance global cooperation to address water related challenges and solutions across climate change adaptation and offer transitional adaptation solutions.
The initiative focuses on three priorities for action, including decreasing water losses worldwide, improving water supply, supporting the implementation of mutual policies and cooperative climate adaptation action.
