CAIRO – 1 June 2023: Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population Hossam Abdel Ghaffar stated that 14,000 multiple sclerosis (MS) patients had been provided with state-funded treatment at 16 hospitals nationwide.

The spokesperson added that more MS treatment departments are being introduced to make the service available in more geographical locations. He noted that the most vulnerable group is individuals aged between 20 and 40.

The ministry announced in May that 1.7 million surgeries had been conducted as part of the presidential initiative to end waiting lists in Egypt and that was launched in July 2018.

In an earlier statement, Abdel Ghaffar clarified that the surgeries include cardiac catheterization, open heart operations, eye surgeries, neurological surgeries, orthopedic surgeries and oncology surgeries.
