We seek passing new law on information circulation, National Dialogue official participant

CAIRO – 29 May 2023:  Assistant rapporteur of the Human Rights Committee at the National Dialogue, Ahmed Ragheb, said that the committee discusses human rights in general during its meetings; however, he wished, that a law would be passed allowing the circulation of information.

He noted that such a law would be Important, especially for press and media, as ‘they need information to carry out their role.’

He noted during televised statements that information is important to confront ‘epidemics and diseases’ and for the participation of people in public life.

He explained that for anything to happen must be political will and that alternatives should be always possible, and that’s why we need to develop the culture of changing within the society.

Ragheb said that there are a number of conditions that controls the circulation of information, which are determined by the law in accordance with the constitution.

He also explained  that making information available is not a ‘commodity’, and that the law sets controls for the circulation of information according to specific criteria.
