People with respiratory problems advised to stay indoors as dust storm expected across Egypt

CAIRO – 28 May 2023: The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has advised people with respiratory problems to stay indoors as many areas across Egypt are expected to see dust storms on Sunday.

The EMA has also advised citizens to wear masks in the streets and close windows tightly to keep dust away from their houses.

Dust storms are expected to continue on Sunday nationwide, especially in the Red Sea mountains, southern Egypt and open areas in Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt.

The EMA also expects light to moderate rain that can turn into thunderstorm in the northern coasts, Lower Egypt and Suez Canal cities.

Greater Cairo may also experience light rain.

Moreover, moderate rain can turn into thunderstorm in southern Egypt. Also, torrential rain may hit central and South Sinai, the Red Sea mountains and the Gulf of Suez, according to the EMA.

Average temperatures based on the EMA expectations:

- Cairo and Lower Egypt – Highs: 33 - Lows: 20

- Northern coasts – Highs: 27 – Lows: 19

- South Sinai – Highs: 35 – Lows: 23

- Northern Upper Egypt – Highs: 35 – Lows: 22

- Southern Upper Egypt – Highs: 40 – Lows: 25
