CAIRO – 24 May 2023: Egypt welcomed, Wednesday the efforts exerted by the 6+6 committee entrusted by Libya's House of Representatives and High Council of State with formulating electoral laws.
In a statement by the Foreign Ministry, Cairo has said it looks forward to the Libyan parties' continued efforts to finalize the legal framework needed to facilitate the organization of presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya as soon as possible, to enable Libyan brethren to find a Libyan solution to the Libyan crisis and build their future.
According to a statement read by Spokesperson for the Joint Committee Omar Muhammad Abu Lifa during a press conference in Morocco's town of Bouznika, the 6 + 6 Joint Committee had managed to reach a complete agreement on a raft of issues related to holding the long-awaited elections.
During its meeting on Tuesday, the Libyan Committee stressed the need to form a unified government that paves the way for holding elections throughout the country.
Since Monday, Morocco has been hosting meetings of the 6+6 committee, made up of six members of the Libyan House of Representatives and their counterparts from the High Council of State (parliamentary advisory) to reach a consensus on electoral laws under which elections could be held in the strife-torn north African country
