FM shoukry meets UN Special Envoy for Yemen
CAIRO - 18 July 2017: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met Tuesday with the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed in Cairo, according to Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid.
During their meetings Shoukry said that Egypt is keen on following the latest developments in the Yemeni issue and the United Nation’s efforts for the country’s stability and better humanitarian conditions.
“We are supporting all the Initiatives which aim to reach a political solution to the Yemeni crisis,” Shoukry said during the meeting.
From his side, Cheikh Ahmed lauded Egypt’s international political role regarding the Yemeni case. According to Abu Zeid’s statement, the UN Special Envoy briefed Shoukry on the latest updates regarding the military and economic situation in Yemen.
“We are taking serious steps toward reaching a ceasefire andsubsequently holding direct negotiations and talks between the different Yemeni parties,” Cheikh Ahmed told Shoukry.
Cheikh Ahmed arrived in Cairo Sunday July 16 to meet with several Egyptian officials including Foreign Minister Shoukry and Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit.
