CAIRO- 20 May 2023: The Ministry of Environment organized an extensive cleaning and awareness campaign in the Wadi Degla Reserve, in cooperation with the Wadi Ibex team.
The Ministry of Environment organized, through the Eco Egypt campaign, a large campaign to protect the ecosystems in the Wadi Degla reserve, to raise awareness of the importance of strengthening waste management in reserves, the statement added.
“The campaign aims to organize the efforts of visitors and the reserve management to collect waste, to contribute to transforming the Wadi Degla into a sustainable, waste-free reserve, and to achieve the highest return from the waste collection campaign,” said Minister Yasmine Fouad in the statement.
The Minister of Environment indicated that the campaign will be held during the weekends, starting on May 12, 2023, for a month, during which black bags will be distributed to visitors to collect plastic waste, and blue bags for non-plastic waste.
Fouad added that the Wadi Ibex team has donated five waste collection barrels, each barrel consisting of five 200-liter waste capacity, noting that the campaign is a continuation of the activity launched and organized by the team to clean the Wadi Degla reserve for waste since the last September, in cooperation with the Ministry and the Eco Egypt campaign.
A pavilion was placed at the entrance to the reserve, where bags made of recycled plastic will be distributed to visitors to collect their waste, provided that the collected waste will be exchanged for a prize of environmentally friendly local products or gifts from Eco Egypt.
The Eco Egypt is a campaign to promote ecotourism in Egypt's reserves as well as sustainable tourism practices.
