341 competitors ready to release homing pigeons in racing season

CAIRO - 19 May 2023: A total of 341 competitors are preparing to launch their homing pigeons Friday, from the launch point in the city of Salloum, as part of the homing pigeon racing season.

 

There are 6,500 individual homing pigeons participating in the race, which is organized by the Egyptian Federation for Homing Pigeon Racing, and is for a distance of 650 kilometers.

 

The contestants from the governorates of Gharbia, Sharqia, Beheira, Menoufia and Alexandria handed over their pigeons to the responsible committee, with a number of 2,500 pigeons, in preparation for gathering with the rest of the contestants’ pigeons from the assembly points in Cairo, Giza and Qalyubia.

 

Mohamed Harfoush, general coordinator of the carrier pigeon races at the level of Lower Egypt, said that the carrier pigeons are received from the participant in the race at the level of 5 governorates. , Alexandria.

 

He said that the pigeons are carefully examined before being registered on the device, through veterinarians in the Veterinary Department, to ensure that the individual is safe from any diseases.

 

For his part, Ahmed Khalifa, head of the Egyptian Federation for Homing Pigeon Racing, said that Friday is the final throw for the pigeon races towards Lower Egypt, and the starting point will be from the city of Salloum.
