Shoukry discuss Qatar’s crisis with UN CTED executive director

CAIRO – 18 July 2017: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry asserted on Tuesday that the Qatari siege will not end unless Doha meets all of their demands, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid .

This statement came during his meeting with the executive director of the United Nations Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) Jean-Paul Laborde in Cairo .

Abu Zeid said in press statements on Tuesday that Shoukry reviewed with Laborde the latest developments of efforts to confront terrorism and extremism, as well as efforts exerted by Egypt in this regard.

The meeting discussed the means to enhance and support the role of United Nations Security Council in confronting terror.

Shoukry said “the quartet” states will not ease their siege on Qatar unless Doha complies with their demands. He added that Egypt has verified eleven agreements related to confronting terrorism.

For his part, the Executive Director of the United Nations (CTED) Jean-Paul Laborde hailed Egypt’s vital role in confronting terrorism.

The Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) was established by Security Council resolution 1373 (2001), which was adopted unanimously on September 28, 2001 in the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States.

The committee, comprised of all 15 Security Council members, was tasked with monitoring the implementation of resolution 1373 (2001), which requested countries to implement a number of measures intended to enhance their legal and institutional ability to counter terrorist activities at home, in their regions and around the world.
