CAIRO – 17 May 2023: Environment Minister of South Korea Han Hwa-jin applauded the steps Egypt took under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to improve sanitation, protect the environment, and adopt a set of policies and strategies for transitioning a green economy, topped by waste recycling.
The Korean official was speaking during a ceremony organized Wednesday by the Ministry of Local Development to inaugurate three solid waste recycling plants in Sohag, Minya, and Gharbia.
She said her country adopted several strategies to deal with solid waste, and is looking forward to promoting Waste-to-Energy cooperation with Egypt, making use of Egypt's process improvement measures for easier waste-to-energy (WtE) conversion.
Affirming her country's commitment to help Egypt meet waste-related sustainable development goals (SDGs), Hwa-jin also underscored the importance of boosting joint cooperation towards a greener environment to achieve carbon neutrality and protect the environment.
