Egyptian president discusses with Scatec CEO in-progress projects

CAIRO – 15 May 2023: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received Monday CEO of Scatec Terje Pilskog holding talks on the projects carried out by the company in the fields of renewable energy and green hydrogen.

 

The first phase of the green hydrogen plant built by Scatec in Ain Sokhna has already begun operation, which made Egypt the first African country to produce the product.

 

The other in-progress projects are two green ammonia plants. One is located in SCzone and is worth $6 billion, while the other lies in Damietta and its value is $870 million. There are also a $5.6-billion wind farm whose capacity is five gigawatts, and a green methanol plant in Damietta whose cost is $450 million.

 

The meeting equally tackled the potential of achieving electricity linkage with Europe with a capacity of three gigawatts, as an MoU was signed to conduct relevant studies.

 

On his side, Pilskog affirmed the company's commitment to expanding investments in Egypt in the coming period, given the outstanding development of infrastructure and enhancement of business environment.
