CAIRO - 15 May 2023: The head of the European Union delegation to Egypt, Ambassador Christian Berger, confirmed that Egypt plays an important regional role in many fields, especially the political asspect.
He added - in exclusive statements to the Middle East News Agency this evening at the Cervantes Institute in Alexandria, in the presence of the Spanish Ambassador to Cairo, Alvaro Iran Gutierrez, the Estonia's Ambassador to Cairo, Ingrid Amer, and the Executive Director of the Anna Lindh Foundation - that Egypt's role is very important in the political aspects, praising the Egyptian role in mediating between Gaza and Israel, and a cease-fire agreement. He stressed that Egypt plays an effective role in preserving and building peace.
Ambassador Christian Berger explained that Egypt is a center for renewable energy in North Africa, the Mediterranean region and the Middle East.
He said that there are many areas in which Egypt and the European Union are cooperating, including various fields.
He explained that the celebration of "Europe Day", which falls on May 9 of each year, is an annual celebration of peace and unity in Europe.
The head of the European Union delegation to Egypt, Ambassador Christian Berger, also indicated during his speech this evening, "Sunday" at the Institut Cervantes in Alexandria, that the celebration of the month of the European Union for the year 2023 includes the screening of a cinematic course entitled "Cities", which includes 11 films, including what is shown at the Institut Cervantes in Alexandria.
He pointed to the importance of the issue of water and the necessity of preserving it in order to preserve the future of humanity.
For his part, the Spanish Ambassador to Cairo, Alvaro Iran Gutierrez, welcomed the attendees and participants to celebrate the month of the European Union at the Cervantes Institute in Alexandria.
He explained that a group of films are being shown in order to celebrate this important occasion.
He also talked about the status of the Spanish language, which is one of the most important languages at the global level, and the desire of Egyptians of all ages to learn and master it.
He said that the Cervantes Institute offers courses and events to introduce the Spanish language and culture to Egypt.
The Cervantes Institute in Alexandria screened the film “Also Rain”, whose story revolves around the issue of water and its importance through a group of heroes. It was directed and screenplayed by Ethar Pepline and Paul Lafferty, and it is a historical work that dates back to 2015.
