Sisi briefed on efforts to develop Egypt’s utilization of tantalum, mineral wealth

CAIRO – 11 May 2023: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has reviewed efforts of developing Egypt's means to benefit from mineral wealth, mainly its reserves of Tantalum.

Tantalum is one of the most precious and rare elements used in many sophisticated industries, such as aircraft components, electronics and microelectronic circuits, mobile phones and laptops, as well as the manufacture of some medical components such as prosthetics and artificial joints.

In a meeting with Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and a group of ministers and officials on Thursday, Sisi ordered using the best methods of modern management and governance, as well as advanced technological techniques, so as to maximize the added value of Egypt's mineral wealth.

Sisi order optimal management and use of Egypt's mineral wealth and raw materials in a way that contributes to enhance state’s industrial plan and the national economy.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El-Molla and Minister of Public Enterprise Sector Mahmoud Esmat attended the meeting.

Also, Director General of the National Service Projects Organization of the Armed Forces Walid Abul Magd and Head of the Egyptian Company for Mining, Management and Exploitation of Quarries Abdel Salam Shafiq were among the attendees.

Over the past years, Egypt has been keen to localize many industries, including automotive, construction and infrastructure, and using local components in manufacturing in order to reduce the import bill and encourage local industry.
