South Sudan, Chad to join summit in Egypt on Sudanese crisis soon: Kiir’s advisor

CAIRO – 11 May 2023: South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir and his Chadian counterpart, Idriss Déby, will join a summit soon in Egypt with the aim of resolving the Sudanese crisis, South Sudanese president's security advisor Tut Gatluak said.

In TV remarks to Al-Qahera News, Gatluak said the summit will result in specific outcomes and will be attended by Juba and N’Djamena as the neighbouring countries of Sudan, which have been affected by the crisis.

Gatluak stressed the need for implementing peace in Sudan as soon as possible, urging all the Sudanese parties and the political powers to also participate in the dialogue to propose solutions for the crisis.

Gatluak’s remarks come after a visit by Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry to each of Chad and South Sudan to deliver President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s message to the leaders of the two countries on the developments in Sudan.

On Tuesday, Sisi also welcomed Gatluak, who delivered a message from President Kiir on bilateral relations and the Sudanese crisis in a meeting in Cairo attended by Egyptian Chief of the General Intelligence Service (GIS) Abbas Kamel.

Egypt, as a neighbor to Sudan, has been urging the conflicting Sudanese parties to return to dialogue to reach a permanent ceasefire after the clashes killed hundreds of Sudanese, injured thousands, and forced tens of thousands to flee the country to Egypt.

During their meeting, Sisi and Gatluak stressed the importance of encouraging Sudanese parties to abide by the truce and maintain a comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire.

This would allow the delivery of humanitarian aid, and pave the way for launching a constructive dialogue to settle differences and resolve the crisis, they affirmed.
