CAIRO – 9 May 2023: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry delivered a message from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir.
This came during the Egyptian top diplomat’s meeting with Kiir on Tuesday in Juba as part of his tour to both Chad and South Sudan, according to Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid, who said that the message dealt with the latest developments in the war-ridden Sudan and the important role of its neighboring countries in helping to resolve the current crisis and enabling the warring parties to reach a permanent ceasefire to saves the lives of the Sudanese people and preserve the country's stability and territorial integrity.
Shoukry reviewed the efforts and contacts that Egypt has made since the beginning of the crisis, especially at the political level by working with the conflicting parties and the influential forces regionally and internationally to realize a ceasefire and settle differences through dialogue.
Also, he shed light on its efforts at the humanitarian level by underscoring the importance of stemming the bloodshed and sparing the Sudanese people the suffering resulting from the ongoing military clashes, noting that Egypt has received more than 60,000 of the brotherly Sudanese people who fled their homeland since the start of the fighting.
The foreign minister stressed during his meeting with Kiir the necessity of coordination among Sudan’s neighboring countries which are directly affected by the continuation of the Sudanese conflict.
The two sides agreed on maintaining closer contacts at all levels and coordinating stances at both the regional and international levels to stop the fighting and protect Sudan’s security, unity and sovereignty.
