CAIRO – 6 May 2023: During his meeting with Chairman of the US House Intelligence Committee Mike Turner on Saturday in Cairo, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi discussed a number of regional issues including the Palestinian-Israeli cause, and the ongoing military clashes in Sudan.

Regarding, the Palestinian-Israeli issue, President Sisi said that working to resume negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides with the aim of a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue is a must.

President Sisi added that Egypt is exerting relentless efforts, in parallel, to stabilize the truce between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, as well as the initiatives for the reconstruction of Gaza. He stressed that a just and comprehensive peace would open new and broad horizons in the region, in the interest of development and prosperity for all peoples, said Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy in a statement.

As for the Sudanese crisis, the President affirmed Egypt's stance towards the current developments in Sudan, in terms of the necessity of a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire, and the initiation of a peaceful dialogue leading to the completion of the transitional path, Fahmy said.

They tackled the strength and durability of the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States, said Fahmy, noting that the US side praised Egypt’s role in combatting terrorism, which requires the continuation and strengthening of cooperation and consultation between both sides at all levels.

The meeting was attended also by a large delegation of the US House Intelligence Committee; Head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Major General Abbas Kamel; and Chargé d’Affaires in the US embassy in Cairo John P. Desrocher.
