CAIRO – 4 May 2023: Director of the Office of the UN regional coordinator, Max Schott, thanked Egypt for its efforts in helping all displaced from Sudan.
He added in televised statements, Thursday: “I am very affected by what I saw and the services and aid provided by the Egyptian authorities, and what they offered in terms of water, food and shelter."
"I would like also to thank Egypt for keeping the Arqin border crossing open for urgent assistance to those fleeing violence and clashes in Sudan." Schott said
Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry made Thursday a phone call to each of Chairman of the Transitional Military Council of Sudan Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Commander of the Rapid Support Forces Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
The minister underscored Egypt's deep concern about the persistence of military confrontations, which has incurred deaths among civilians and put the security and stability of Sudan in grave peril. In that context, he urged an immediate ceasefire to preserve the wealth of the Sudanese people, and serve the high national interest.
Minister Shokry equally stressed that Egypt would not spare any effort to support Sudan through that precarious and unprecedented predicament. He further highlighted that the Egyptian people is agonizing because of the suffering of its Sudanese counterpart as a consequence of the ongoing fighting.
Hence, the minister stipulated the necessity of abiding by the truce by all parties to make room for rescue missions, delivery of medical and humanitarian aid, and securing protection of civilians.
