Arish camel race festival proves city is safe: Senior camel owner

CAIRO - 1 May 2023: North Sinai's city of Arish has repeatedly hosted camel races, showing the world the city is a safe place, after eliminating all terrorist and radical movements.
 
One of the senior camel owners participating in the race, Khalil Abu Ali Abu Akfa, expressed his happiness at the return of the races to Arish amid the support and encouragement of the state, and the activities that proved that North Sinai is safe, adding that the festival attracted participants from all governorates of Egypt.  
 
The International Camel Racing Festival was organized at the racetrack in the 17th kilometer west of Arish, as part of the North Sinai Governorate's celebration of the 41st anniversary of liberation and the governorate's National Day.
 
Khalil Abu Akfa said that he transported his camels to participate in the race in Arish, coming from race fields that in Matrouh and South Sinai, to compete alongside camels brought by their owners from all the governorates of Egypt, and everyone lived the joy of security, safety, competition, reaping prizes and achieving winning gains. .
 
He indicated that he was able to obtain 3 first places in the race out of 30 runs of different types of camels. The festival has been halted for 12 years, amid the effort that was exerted in order for all Sinai people to live in a safe environment, and on the other hand, the state working to develop the field to be ready to receive camels.
 
He added that the Al-Arish race field is considered the first camel field in Egypt, and is comfortable for camels in terms of the racing ground and the atmosphere. This provides opportunities to improve income for many during the festival’s activities.
