CAIRO - 28 April 2023: Egypt does not believe that a military solution in Sudan is possible, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry told his British counterpart Thursday.
U.K. Foreign Secretary James Cleverly made a phone call Shoukry to consult on the situation in Sudan. Shoukry called for preserving state institutions and supporting international efforts extend the armistice and return to dialogue.
They agreed to closely coordinate regarding the situation in Sudan.
Cleverly offered condolences about the killing of the assistant administrative attache at the Egyptian embassy in Khartoum, praising the “heroic role” played by the Egyptian embassy and the rest of the diplomatic missions in Khartoum to evacuate the nationals of their countries.
The British secretary thanked Shoukry for the assistance provided by Egypt in evacuating U.K. nationals, and asking for continuing this assistance to evacuate the rest of the British in Sudan.
