Egypt's Armed Forces: Evacuation of Egyptian forces from Sudan underway

CAIRO – 20 April 2023: The process of evacuating the Egyptian forces that were participating in joint military exercises with the Sudanese Army in Merowe is underway, announced Egypt's Ministry of Defense a statement on Thursday.

The Egyptian Armed Forces announced that three military planes landed in an air base in Sudanese territory on Wednesday evening to evacuate most of the Egyptian forces on three successive flights to an Egyptian military base in Cairo

The rest of the Egyptian forces, who were with the Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, arrived at the headquarters of the Egyptian Embassy, following cooperation with the concerned Sudanese authorities, friendly countries [the UAE], and the International Committee of the Red Cross in Sudan, according to the Armed Forces' announcement.

The forces arrived at the embassy in Khartoum will be evacuated as soon as “the situation stabilizes and appropriate security conditions are available for the return of the soldiers,” the Egyptian Army explained, stressing that all Egyptian military personnel who arrived home from Sudan, as well as those who are at the Egyptian Embassy in Khartoum, are safe and healthy.
