CAIRO - 17 April 2023: The crisis that Sudan goes through might lead to a civil war, said Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC) spokesperson Ammar Hamoda said in a TV interview on Tuesday.

“Our experience with armed conflict always ends up with long actions and perhaps separation, just like what happened with South Sudan, or returning to the negotiating table, as we have witnessed with all armed struggle movements.” He added in comments to the Egyptian Al Qahehra News T.V.

Clashes erupted in several locations in the center of the Sudanese capital between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary fighters. The Sudanese army and the RSF are trading accusations regarding who started the clashes.

Military actions are not solutions to the current political crisis in Sudan amid the country’s humanitarian needs, Hamoda added, stressing that the political solution would be the best for all parties.

“Military intervention blocks the path to political solutions. Experience has shown that there is no alternative to political solutions which we will eventually have to resort to. Politicians and all of those who pursue peaceful action need to cooperate in order to stop the fighting and return to the path of negotiation” he said.

He continued that the idea of integrating the RSF paramilitary fighters into the state’s national army was not rejected before the outbreak of the clashes between the warring parties. Hamoda clarified that that the RSF themselves are aware of the necessity of such an integration in order to achieve its goal of establishing a unified, professional army “but discords regarding subsequent details led to the outbreak of the war as a result of political ambitions.”
