CAIRO – 15 April 2023: The General Command of the Sudanese Armed Forces said on Saturday that it is facing attempts by the rebels to control strategic locations in the capital, Khartoum, affirming that such “sinful endeavors” will fail.

“The Armed Forces men are facing at these moments the enemy, who is pushing his forces from its bases spread throughout the capital, in attempts to control strategic sites, including the Republican Palace, the General Command, and the headquarters of the President of the Sovereignty Council,” Sudan's news agency (SUNA) quoted the command as saying.

“Their sinful endeavors will be disappointed and broken in the face of the determination, will and courage of your men of the Armed Forces,” the command added.

Clashes erupted today in several locations in the center of the Sudanese capital between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary fighters.

The Sudanese army and the RSF are trading accusations regarding who started the clashes.

The Sudanese army said its Air Forces are also conducting airstrikes against the RSF, Reuters reported.

The RSF has claimed to have seized control of the Republican Palace and Khartoum International Airport. However, the army said earlier that it is still in control of all bases and airports across the capital.

“The circles of conspiracy and aggression against our country are continuing by the forces rebelling against the state and the national sovereignty,” the general command said.

The command added that the men of the Armed Forces have been fighting since this morning “the battle of truth and national dignity, and they have sacrificed their precious blood cheaply for the sake of national dignity, and will be victorious.”

World has called for quick ceasefire in Sudan, urging the Sudanese parties to exercise maximum restraint to protect lives and the resources of people.
