UN election coordinator discusses South Sudan transition with Egypt’s amb.

CAIRO - 12 April 2023: Egyptian Ambassador to South Sudan Moataz Mustafa met with head of the Elections Unit of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan Darren Nance on Tuesday to discuss upcoming polls in the country.

The meeting touched on the ongoing preparations for holding elections at the end of the transitional period in South Sudan and the challenges facing elections.

They also spoke of possible regional and international support for the process. Mostafa reviewed the Egyptian experience in organizing elections and referendums throughout the history of the Egyptian state, offering support and consultation to South Sudan.

For his part, Nance said he looks forward to Egypt’s support for South Sudan in drafting a new constitution and holding elections.
