CAIRO – 10 April 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs and COP 27 President Sameh Shokry received Monday a phone call from U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry to affirm the importance of maintaining joint work and consultation in the coming period to build upon the outcomes of last summit and prepare for COP 28.
Kerry expressed appreciation for Shokry for taking part in the virtual meeting of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate Change in March. On his side, the COP 27 president pledged commitment to work with all international partners, including the United States, to push forward the international climate action agenda in the near future.
During the forum's meeting, Minister Shokry noted that COP 27 hosted by Egypt represented a transition from pledges into implementation.
The minister further stressed that for international climate action to succeed, the interests of all parties concerned must be taken into consideration. He equally highlighted the demands made at COP 27 to reform international financing institutions with the aim of enlarging and facilitating funds to climate mitigation.
