Egypt’s First Lady affirms right of orphans to receive care, social protection

CAIRO – 7 April 2023: Egypt’s First Lady Entissar Amer stressed the right of orphans to receive care and social protection as she marked the Orphans Day celebrated annually in April on the national level.

“The best of people are those who care for orphans and show them love, mercy and compassion,” Amer said in a social media post on Friday.

“On Orphan's Day, I would like to affirm our duty towards our orphaned sons and daughters and their right to receive care and social protection,” she stressed.

Orphans Day is a national celebration that Egypt has been marking on the first Friday of April annually since 2004 in order to raise awareness about orphans and to share happiness with them.

The number of children benefiting from social care institutions totaled around 9,500 boys and girls living in 481 care institutions, the Ministry of Social Solidarity said last year.
