CAIRO- 7 April 2023: In one of Cairo’s working-class neighborhoods, Egyptians held the longest Ramadan Iftar [Breakfast] banquet this year nationwide.
The banquet was held in Ezbet Hamada in the Al-Mataria neighborhood in Cairo, with the participation of children, youth and the elderly, and South Korea’s ambassador to Egypt Hong Jin-wook and members of the embassy.
Despite the economic crisis that Egypt goes through, residents of the district were keen to arrange the banquet for those who fast as they have been holding the mass Iftar for eight years, according to a report by Al Qahyra News T.V.
The banquet is prepared in mid-Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar during which Muslims fast from dawn to unset, for more than 1,500 people.
Egypt’s annual core inflation rate recorded its highest rate ever in February 2023 at 40.3 percent, compared to 31.2 percent in January 2023, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said in a statement on March 9.
Egypt is witnessing an inflationary wave that has been accelerating almost every month since the beginning of 2022, as a result of the high costs of importing energy and food, due to the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and the Corona epidemic crisis.
