CAIRO – 6 April 2023: Egypt is looking to obtain an international license for Egyptian recycled products, in cooperation with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), said the Egyptian Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad on Thursday.

The Minister of the Environment said that the Waste Management Regulatory Authority at the Ministry is the only accreditation body to obtain a license to recycle products inside Egypt. She added that the approval of exporting these products requires obtaining a license from one of the internationally accredited bodies.

Her statement came during a meeting with Manal Saleh, the Chief Executive Officer (ECO) at Egyptian Clothing Bank. The Minister and Saleh discussed a number of issues and unified visions on methods of reaching sustainability, besides promoting the culture of recyclable products and supporting them locally and globally.

Manal Saleh reviewed a number of issues including solving the problem of wasting fabrics and textiles in free zones, by providing a mechanism for reusing these products and converting them into new products, and distributing them through civil associations in the villages and areas most in need, in cooperation with the Bank and the Long Live Egypt Fund.

Saleh talked about the need for a mechanism to obtain an approved license to export recycled products to open new horizons for recycled products and support them globally, in addition to working on the “From Waste to Good Taste” initiative, which was launched in mid-January 2023.
