CAIRO - 3 April 2023: The House of Representatives, during its plenary session on Monday, headed by Counselor Dr. Hanafi Jabali, finally approved a draft law submitted by the government to reinstate the daylight saving time system.

The bill aims to restore the summer time system by advancing the clock by sixty minutes, starting from the last Friday of April until the last Thursday of October, with the aim of rationalizing energy consumption and saving its operation in light of the world’s economic conditions and changes.

The draft law included two articles as follows:

Article 1 included the start date for daylight saving time, starting from the last Friday of April until the end of the last Thursday of October of each Gregorian year. The legal hour in the Arab Republic of Egypt is the hour according to the time followed, advanced by sixty minutes.

Article 2 states that this law will be published in the Official Gazette, and it will come into effect from the day following the date of its publication.

The daylight saving time has been introduced and abolished at different times in Egypt's history, and was last used in 2014.
