CAIRO – 31 March 2023: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi performed Friday prayers at the Mosque of Field Marshal Tantawi on the occasion of the anniversary victory of the 1973 War, which was marked on the 10th of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The 10th of Ramadan's victory corresponds to October 6 War, 1973 where Arab countries led by Egypt and Syria defeated the Israeli forces mostly in Sinai and the Golan.

President listened to a sermon talking about the status of the martyrs, the virtue of the victories of the tenth of Ramadan, the capabilities of the Egyptian soldiers, and the liberation of the land of Sinai.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Lieutenant General Mohamed Zaki, Minister of Defense and Military Production Lieutenant General Osama Askar, and senior commanders of the armed forces.

Israel captured the Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank, Old City of Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights in the Six-Day War that began on June 5, 1967.

On October 6, 1973, at 2:00 p.m. (Cairo time) the Egyptian Armed Forces launched its war against the Israeli troops bringing down the Bar Lev Line (a series of fortifications).

As a result, the Israeli troops were forced to retreat 15 kilometers eastern of the Suez Canal; meanwhile, Syrian troops waged the war near Golan Heights against the Israeli troops.

The war that lasted for almost two weeks paved the way for negotiations that gave rise to the Peace Treaty between Israel and Egypt in 1979, and the liberation of the entire Sinai, except for Taba which was recovered by Egypt through international arbitration in 1989.
