CAIRO – 30 March 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry met Thursday with his Cambodian counterpart Prak Sokhonn as they held talks on pushing forward cooperation in the sectors of trade, tourism, education and culture.
Minister Shokry expressed appreciation for Minister Sokhonn for visiting Egypt, and selecting Cairo to house the only Cambodian embassy on the African continent. The Egyptian minister noted that Egypt was among the first African and Arab states that established diplomatic relations with Cambodia in 1953.
In a related context, the minister expressed aspiration to consolidate collaboration with Cambodia, and the ASEAN, of which, the country is member, and Egypt is a signatory of Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.
Minister Shokry underlined Egypt's readiness to help Cambodia boost trade exchange with Africa, through its recently upgraded seaports and dry ports, investment incentives, and SCzone.
The two ministers also conferred over a number of regional and international matters of joint interest, affirming the importance of maintaining reciprocal consultation and coordination.
The meeting was concluded by signing three MoUs in the fields of archeology, culture, and diplomacy.
