CAIRO – 23 March 2023: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated early on Thursday, the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, Egypt's giant Islamic Cultural Center in the New Administrative Capital, east of Cairo.
It also has a number of halls for various ceremonies, and chambers for teaching Koran to men, women, and children. The establishment has a parking lot and a seven-story parking whose capacity is 3,000 cars.
Misr Mosque of the center has earned 3 Guinness World Records for having the largest pulpit and the largest and heaviest chandelier in the world.
The mosque has a pulpit with a height of 16.5 meters and a chandelier that is 22 meters high and 22 meters wide and weighs 25 tons.
The Islamic Cultural Center is established over an area of 112 feddans (116 acres) and can accommodate 130,000 worshippers. The center also has garages that can have 2,700 vehicles inside.
The center also has a huge place for Quran recitation, dubbed Dar Al-Quran Al-Karim with halls for listening and for holding seminars.
Ahead of the inauguration, the President had the Suhoor (a morning meal eaten by Muslims before the dawn call during Ramadan) with workers in the capital, according to a statement by the presidential spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy. He also listened to religious songs by a number of youth singers.
The President also thanked the participants, workers, singers, and musicians, praising efforts exerted by workers of the administrative capital.
The event was attended by Grand Imam of Al Azhar Ahmed El Tayeb, Minister of Awqaf (Endowment), and Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, who performed the dawn prayer at the Islamic Cultural Center.
