CAIRO – 22 March 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry met Tuesday with his Danish counterpart Lars Rasmussen to confer over reinforcing bilateral cooperation, and exchange views on global issues of mutual concern, mainly the Russia-Ukraine War and the Palestinian Cause.
Minister Shokry presented the outcomes of Sharm El Sheikh talks Egypt had hosted for parties to negotiate pacification. He also lauded the fruitful visit of the Danish prime minister to Cairo on March 13-14.
The minister also commended the ongoing work by Danish companies to make Egypt a regional center for their operations in the fields of container trading, and production of marine fuel.
The minister of foreign affairs had met earlier Tuesday Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers Karen Ellemann in Copenhagen, expressing hope to launching a communication process and devising a cooperation mechanism, out of a desire to develop relations and explore opportunities.
The minister added that Egypt aims for creating a mechanism similar to those between the country and Visegrad Group, and trilaterally among Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus.
The minister elaborated that Egypt was interested in bolstering economic cooperation with Nordic countries, and building on the success stories Danish and Norwegian companies, such as Maresk and Scatec, had achieved in Egypt, especially in the sector of green transition.
The meeting tackled a number of topics pertaining to climate change and environment protection so as the minister presented the Egyptian initiatives on that front.
On her side, the secretary general of the Nordic Council of Ministers commended Egypt's presidency of COP 27, and affirmed interest in pushing forward cooperation with Egypt as a pivotal partner in the Middle East.
