CAIRO - 19 March 2023: Applying for the second round of the National Initiative for Green Smart Projects in Governorates is now open until the end of May, according to a Sunday statement by the Ministry of Planning.
The initiative covers all governorates in another effort to spread the green approach all over Egypt and linking sustainable ideas to financing agencies.
Some 6,200 projects were presented in the first round during COP27 hosted by Egypt in 2022. A total of 162 projects were selected where each of Egypt's 27 governorates came up with six projects. Eighteen of the projects were selected, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Developments supported six of them.
The applying projects must be within the geographical scope of the governorate, have already been implemented and whose results are supported by evidence, and includes a technological component and a component related to environmental sustainability.
Projects will be evaluated during the second round of the initiative according to the environmental impacts, energy efficiency, renewable energy, economic feasibility, social impacts, degree of innovation, smart technology uses, fourth industrial revolution technologies, ability to expand and iterate, sustainability. Women empowerment and equal opportunities are also put into consideration.
