CAIRO – 17 March 2023: Egypt’s Journalists Syndicate mid-term elections kicked off on Friday to choose new Head for the Syndicate along with other 6 board members.
Up to 51 candidates are competing during the elections; 11 candidates are running for the seat of the head, while 40 candidates are competing for the six seats in the council, 12 of them are “over-age” seats, and 28 for the “under-age” seats.
The vote is considered valid by selecting 6 of the candidates whose names are listed on elections forum.
The General Assembly and the Elections Supervisory Committee are chaired by the outgoing President of the Syndicate of Journalists, Diaa Rashwan, who is not competing for the head seat, as he already served for two consecutive terms in the position.
The members’ signature on the lists of the general assembly began from 10 am until 12 noon, until the general assembly was completed and then, the voting began in the elections.
The elections supervising committee has the right to extend voting for several hours as needed.
